Hiking in the dolomites
Val Gardena offers numerous possibilities of hiking trails all at different altitudes: novice hikers can trek high paths over the Alms or passways past majestic boulder formations; advanced hikers can take longer and more demanding marked trails.
Every week the tourist office organizes a nature walk through the mountains and alms. You will be accompanied by an expert who can tell you about the mountains, alms, geology, flora and fauna who will answer any questions you have glady.
Also, something worthy of noting - in the vicinity of Val Gardena, a very pretty part and natural treasure of the Dolomites were declared a national park therefore making it worthy of visiting: the Nature park „Schlern“ and the Nature park „Puez-Geisler“.
Val Gardena Hiking Badge
The Val Gardena Hiking Badge “Cristal d’Or“ (cristal pin) is available to every hiker who picks up a “Hiker pass” for a fee at the tourist office and eagerly collects the stamps provided by operators of the Val Gardena Schutzhütten (cabins).
This is a personal award, which according to the accumulated points qualifies for a pin in Rock Crystal, Gold, Silver, or Bronze including a certificate.
Several Hiking Suggestions within the Val Gardean valley
To the “Puezhütte“ (Puezhut) in the depths of the Dolomites
Walking time: 4 – 5 hours, altitude difference 1200 m (climb 350 m, descent 850 m)
To get to this easy and rewarding trail one takes the “Gondelbahn Dantercëppies” from Selva Gardena all the way to the mountain station Val Gardena Joch.
Once on the marked trail No. 2, proceed to the Clarkhut just like over the Crespëina plateaue to the lake of the same name that gleams like turquoise. Eventually you will reach the 2475 m high Puezhut.
On the way back you can cross the Langental with the trail marked No. 14.
Through the Val Gardena Valley along the old post trail
Walking time: 4 – 5 hours
The trail marked as “P” was a frequent mail delivery route in the past that led towards the valley from Ortisei. This hiking trail is most inviting in the Fall when the leaves of the trees are most spectacular in color.
